In his latest, most recent directorial work, Spike Jonze creates a world where robots and humans co-exist. “I’m Here” revolves around a love story between robots who are beginning to find a purpose and reason to exist in a human world. Shot in LA, the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the 30-minute short supports Spike’s whimsical originality to create a world not unlike his work in the past.

Although the short film was funded by Absolute Vodka, “I’m Here” isn’t a ploy to market the product directly and really has nothing to do with vodka. Then again, I did just mention their name in this post.

John Hughes flicks, smoking in the mall, my first pair of Wayfarers…just a handful of things I loved about the 80′s. You know what else I loved about the 80′s? Patrick Nagel. If you were around in the 80′s then you’ll definitely remember some of the coolest visual interpretations of the fairer sex ever to grace the walls of trendy lounges and the pages of Playboy alike. Patrick Nagel’s pale beauties are the 80′s personified.

Nagel first put his talents to work as a freelance artist. In 1971, he joined ABC television where he produced graphics for promos and news broadcasts. After a year, he returned to freelance assignments and did a lot of work for major corporations and magazines like United Artists, MGM, Universal Studios, Playboy and Rolling Stone.

Beginning in 1976, Nagel began contributing regularly to Playboy, which extended the exposure and popularity of “the Nagel Woman” to a huge and loyal audience. Nagel designed the cover for Duran Duran’s Rio album, which became the number one album in the world, further solidifying Nagel’s place in pop culture. Sadly, the artist suffered a fatal heart attack in 1984 when he was only 38 years old.

Co-founders Jake Nickell and Jacob DeHart started the company with a measly $1,000 and in the last 10 years it has grown into a multi-million dollar empire. They basically invented a new way of doing business online and built a community of t-shirt loving designers in the process.

The way it works is members of the Threadless community submit t-shirt designs online; the designs are then put to a public vote. If the design does well in voting, the Threadless team may select it for mass production (they get a lot of submissions). If you’re lucky enough to have your design chosen for print, you’ll receive a reward of cash and store credit. It’s genius, really.

Ok, I hope this post is completely redundant because if you’re reading this and you aren’t already familiar with the legend that is Terry Richardson, there’s definitely something wrong with you. That said, it’s impossible for us to maintain a site called “Dirty Creative” without talking about one of the worlds most prolific dirty photographers.

So why are we writing about a guy you probably already know about? Because he’s cool.

Terry has found a way to blur the lines between art, fashion, entertainment, politics and…well, “other” subject matter. When he’s not too busy shooting ads for Gucci and shaking hands with Obama you might find him wandering the streets of Hollywood taking snaps of strung-out winos and calling it art.

With a simple Yashica T4 camera and a no-nonsense attitude, Terry Richardson has carved out a very unique and specific niche for himself in popular culture and for that.

In the interest of avoiding the run-of-the-mill product that the big box stores are pushing, I took to the web to find something a little cooler. That’s when I came across ROLLOUT, a Vancouver-based creative studio that designs and digitally prints custom wallpapers by the square foot.

Now if I can just convince my wife to let me put this on our bedroom wall…

Everything old is new again…well at least as far as Hollywood’s concerned. It’s not news at this point that they’ve gone ahead and re-made George A. Romero’s 1973 cult classic The Crazies, but seeing all the ads around town leading up to the film’s February 26 release got me feeling nostalgic. As a bonafide horror fan and a lover of all things retro, I was inspired to dig up some vintage horror movie posters, for old time’s sake.

Here are 13 classics, some more obscure than others.

I probably wouldn’t wear it and it does remind me of my childhood in the early 90′s but Pantone named Turquoise, specifically, PMS 15-5519 Turquoise, their 2010 Color Of The Year. However, I will try to incorporate it into some upcoming design projects but I’m not quite sure how it’ll be used. Wait…I’m visualizing something… do you see it? The Pantone press release nailed it.

“Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.”

Seriously, can someone say Billy Ocean? If only the Queen was wearing Turquoise “painted on jeans”.

After nearly 10 years of giving the globe a fourth dimension with his socially satirical street art, Briton Bansky (or Robin Banks as he may or may not be called), has made a movie. Billed as “the world’s first street art disaster movie”, Exit Through the Gift Shop made its debut at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival on January 24 and debuts in UK cinemas on March 5, 2010. The ironic doc showcases some of the world’s greatest street artists in their element and the soundtrack’s pretty rad too. No word yet on a theatrical release in North America though, which blows.

For now, check out the trailer:
